The New Downtown Edge

Beer & Culture

Join us at the home of Deborah Daoust and Randy Apsel on Friday, January 28, 7:00-10:00 PM as we hear from a panel of experts discuss a new downtown edge along the Waterfront.

Imagine the Viaduct is gone. The previously obscured back sides of buildings which face Western Avenue -- blank brick walls, loading docks -- are suddenly naked and visible. How should we refine or extend this new downtown edge? What kind of development, if any, should be encouraged along the miles of city-owned right-of-way that once lay beneath tons of stone in the shadow of speeding cars? How do we extend the character and pizzazz of downtown neighborhoods (Belltown, the Market, Pioneer Square) along these newly-opened east-west arteries? Where might we put squares and parks? The city is about to migrate west to the shore. Let's sketch out a few possible itineraries.
